The first thing you must do it to get in the tree stand
without killing yourself. I say this
because if you have never climbed up into a tree stand it can be a little
difficult. Especially if you have your
bow and arrows in hand. All while being
3 months pregnant. I will probably get
some backlash for that but I asked my Doctor and got the thumbs up before I
went.
I had my husband hand me the bow and 1 arrow once I was in
the stand sitting down. He then grabbed
his stuff and headed off to his tree stand about 100 yard away behind a
hill. Sitting there alone was a little
strange at first. I would hear a branch
fall or break and there were no deer.
I sat in that tree stand until the sun had started to go
down. It had to have been getting close
to 5pm. I don’t wear a watch and I had
left my phone at the camp, which I was kicking myself later when I wanted to
take some pictures. It was probably
better that I left it back at camp, since I always have my phone on me for
work. Answering phone calls or
emails. It is OK to disconnect from the
world.
I climbed out of the tree stand carefully. I made my way over to where my husband’s tree
stand was. I couldn’t see it but he
could see me. Since he told me he almost
mistook me for a deer. When you are out
hunting in the woods make sure to walk slowly.
The more noise you make the less you will be hunting and the more you
will be hiking or walking with you gear.
Watch your foot placement and how you put your weight on your feet. Don’t be that guy or gal making all the noise
scaring everything away.
We didn’t get a deer this day but the next day my husband
got a deer within 30 minutes of leaving for the morning hunt. White tails normally don’t have a ton of meat
or huge antlers. This is mostly because
of their environment and diet. If you
lived in the woods, you wouldn’t want to large antlers to slow you down or get
stuck in the trees or bushes.
Am I the only one that is not coordinated enough to get in a
tree stand?
