Both my husband and I carry and we have very different perceptions about carrying firearms. I carry to protect myself and my kids. He carries to keep the government in line. Every time he tells someone this I just roll my eyes and start doing something else. He goes into a 30 minutes discussion sometimes.
I have a few friends the carry firearms both male and female. These are just things that I notice between the two and they are a little funny.
1. Being discrete about carrying.
Females are very discrete, they can have it in their purse, on their body or in their jacket and you would never now.
Males, are not as discrete, will have it on their body but sometimes you can make out that they have a firearm.
I will not tell people where I carry and they will never know. My friends know where I carry only because they have asked and I know they won't go around telling people. If I am with my sister I can't tell her where I am carrying because she tends to tell the world. My husband carries in a few spots and a lot of the times you can tell since there is an unusual bulge where there shouldn't be.
2. If asked "can I see your gun?"
Females depending on the person they may or may not show them.
Males will show whoever asks to see their gun because they want to show it off. They will even show their gun in the most inappropriate places. Such as a restaurant.
We were at a restaurant one night and the people we were with like guns as well. My husband and the guy were talking and I hear "hey you want to see my gun?" My husband was reaching to pull his gun out and I tell him no. He went into kid mode "come on he wants to see it." If the area of the restaurant we were in was empty ok not as big of a problem, but it was packed. I know the owner of the restaurant we were in and he has specifically told me I was allowed to carry in his restaurant and he has seen my gun. One of the few people that has. But I am not about to pull out a gun in the middle of a restaurant to show someone.
3. Gun safety
Females 90% or the time or more she will unload the gun and then hand it to the person that wants to look at it.
Males hands over a loaded gun. This causes accidental discharge majority of the time.
I was at a friends house and one of the guys asked to see the gun I had just bought. So I pulled the gun out of where it was stored on my persons and unloaded the gun. Handed it to him with the chamber open. His wife who is one of my best friends was in another part of the house when this happened and not long after I handed the gun to him he closed the slide on it and she walked in the room. She also asked to see it because they were looking at getting a firearm. He handed it to her. Both I and him know the gun is unloaded but she didn't.
On the other side, my husband had got a new gun for carrying. He had another one that was just too big. We were at a different friends house and he was telling his friend that he got a new gun. Of course he had to see it. So my husband pulled it out of it hiding place and hands him the gun, LOADED. I of course got on him for handing someone a loaded gun. His reasoning is his friend knows how to handle a loaded gun. That is great until he accidentally puts his finger on the trigger and one of his kids comes around the corner and bumps him. NEVER HAND A LOADED GUN TO SOMEONE. His friend did the same thing not even a few weeks later when he handed my husband a loaded gun and forgot to tell him.
Glad to say my husband has started listening to me or has gotten tired of me telling him to unload his gun before he hands it to someone. Since he doesn't do that anymore.
Guns are not toys. They shouldn't be used to impress people, played with or anything of the sort. They are tools that are used to protect. A gun cannot fire itself, some kind of action has to happen in order for it to go off. Please, please, please practice good firearms safety. Please be discrete on where and how you carry your firearm. If someone wants to rob a place and they can see you are carrying a firearm, you are the first target 90% of the time. Don't pull out your firearm unless you have too or in a place that will not alarm people.
