In the Las Vegas valley there are tons of places to go hiking. A great hike to take the family on is the Historic Railroad Trail. The trail is roughly 3.7 miles and great for families with kids. Along the trail there are a few historic markets that can give you information on the trail and Hoover Dam. For anyone that enjoys historic monuments and land marks or a leisure hike (more of a walk) this is the hike for you.
The hike has 6 tunnels you can walk through. You can see through each tunnel so you won't have to worry about walking in complete darkness. Towards dusk it would be a good idea to have a flash light just in case. In the summer, make sure to take water, unless you like the idea of getting heat stroke.
We took out 8 year old and 9 month old on this hike and they both enjoyed it. There are sometimes bats in the cave (depending on the time of day). They do not bother you, just a little creepy with the sounds they make.

The hike can be located just outside of Boulder City, NV. Drive to Great Basin Hwy 93 and Lakeshore rd. Drive down Lakeshore rd and first parking lot you see (after the visitor's center). From there you can follow the trail to get to the trail head. There is a bathroom there as well so you won't have to worry about finding a place to go.
